Badin growers demand water

BADIN, July 2: More than 300 growers staged a sit-in and blocked the Karachi-Badin section of the National Highway for several hours on Tuesday in protest against the shortage of water in the tail-end areas of Guni Shakh.

After a noisy demonstration, the protesters put up wooden planks, huge stems and other barricades in the middle of the road to disrupt the vehicular traffic.

A similar road blockade was witnessed on Monday, by the growers of Dubi Minor-linked areas, at this place whereas abadgars of Sorhadi Shakh have also planned a sit-in here on Wednesday.

CLANS CLASH: Three people were injured, one of them critically, when Gopang and Ghirana clans clashed over water sharing in Deh Machyari of taluka Fazil Rahu on Tuesday.

According to villagers, Abdul Jabbar Ghirano, was busy fetching his share of water under rotation programme when attacked allegedly by some members of Gopang clan. In the following free-for-all, Mr Ghirano sustained serious wounds while two other villagers, Ali and Esso, also received axe injuries.

They were rushed to Golarchi Hospital. Kario Ghanwar police have registered a case against six attackers.
