HYDERABAD, July 2: The chairman of the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party, Dr Qadir Magsi, has deplored that instead of declaring entire province of Sindh a calamity-hit area and exempting growers from payment of water charges, taxes are being recovered by force.

He said the agriculture tax had been thrust on the growers and power tariff and other taxes had also been increased.

He was speaking at a meeting of the Hyderabad district congress of the party at the Taraqqi Pasand house here on Monday.

Dr Magsi said that while the people of Sindh were crying for water, Punjab was constructing the greater Thal canal and dams.

He hoped that the Sindhi people would struggle to get their rights, adding that those who died while fighting for their rights were always honoured by the nations and they become immortals. He said the people of Sindh must develop this thinking now and added that the civil disobedience movement, launched by his party, was aimed in this direction.

He said the day was not far when the Sindhis would come out of the slavery and have control over their river, ocean and natural resources.

He said the party leadership was in touch with writers, lawyers, intellectuals and people at large to prepare them for the movement against anti-Sindhi projects.

Dr Magsi, who is also the president of the Pakistan Oppressed Nations Movement, Sindh chapter, said that during the last 55 years, the resources of Sindh, including industry, commerce, and its cities, had been usurped.

He said Sindh was now being deprived of its due share of water which had affected the produce of the province.

About the constitutional package, Dr Magsi said the “illegal” amendments to the constitution had been given the name of constitutional package.
