KARACHI, July 2: A ban has been imposed on all non-academic activities of the students within the limits of Karachi University from July 16 to October 31.

This was announced in a statement issued by the university on Tuesday.

It said that in view of the prevailing situation in the city, vice-chancellor Dr Zafar Saeed Saify has banned all the non-academic activities of the students within the limits of the university from July 16 to October 31.

He directed the deans of all faculties and chairmen of the departments to ensure the restriction on any sort of gathering of students.

It was warned that admission of the students defying the ban would be cancelled or they would be handed over to the law- enforcement agencies.

KU CRITICIZED: The Karachi University Teachers’ Society (KUTS) on Tuesday condemned the recent harassment and vilification campaign by the university administration against the teaching and non-teaching staff of the university.

In a statement, the KUTS alleged that the KU administration was issuing baseless press statements challenging teachers’ integrity and competence, which, it said, amounted to character assassination.

Terming the circulation of a copy of an obsolete ordinance promulgated in 2000 an act of harassment, the teachers’ society demanded of the KU administration to refrain from their current activities.

PROMOTION: The vice-chancellor of the University of Karachi on Monday invited applications from teachers for promotions to Grade 21.

A spokesman for the university said an open session would be held to select teachers for promotions in Grade 21, during which candidates would highlight their research and teaching activities.

Later, questions would be asked by the participants of the session to judge the candidates’ abilities.

The open session methodology is being adopted for the promotion of teachers in a bid to make the process more transparent, the spokesman said, adding that last date for submission of applications has be fixed as July 30.—APP/PPI
