MIRPURKHAS, Oct 7: An alleged misappropriation of hundreds of thousands of rupees has been detected in the National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) Mirpurkhas and higher authority of the donor NGO has ordered inquiry into the matter, suspending the coordinator of the NRSP Mirpurkhas Zahida Detho.

The NRSP has disbursed micro credit loans to the community based organisations (CBOs) in the district.

Hundreds of thousands of rupees have been advanced as micro credit loans to deserving people under the CBOs, which were to be returned in instalments.

Report said the amount in the Mirpurkhas record did not tally with the record provided to the head office of the National Rural Support Programme.

Sources disclosed a complaint was lodged with the NRSP head office Islamabad regarding the alleged misappropriation.

The coordinator Zahida Detho was suspended and asked to clear herself of the allegation within one month.

Inquiry was ordered by the NRSP head office Islamabad while Aijaz Qureshi, regional general manager, the NRSP Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas region, has been appointed inquiry officer.

WATER ROTATION: Following shortage of water in Nara canal, rotation programme has been announced by the authorities of Jamrao, Mithrao and Thar divisions.

The distributaries and minors of Sindhri and Sanghar sub-division will remain closed from Sunday last for 15 days under the rotation programme.

The closure of the distributaries and minors for 15 days a month would adversely affect the standing crops and delay wheat sowing, said local growers.

Farmers organizations have also expressed concern over the water rotation programme and closure of distributaries for 15 days a month.

The Vice president of the Sindh Abadgar Board Haji Abdul Ghafoor Mehar and general secretary Imtiaz Panhwar while opposing the period of closure have demanded of the higher authorities to chalk out rotation programme with the consultation of the area growers and ensure water for tail-enders.

They pointed out with a rotation of longer duration, the growers would suffer irreparable losses.

KIDNAPPED: A married woman was kidnapped by five accused from the village Haji Momin Nohri, deh 88, taluka Mirpurkhas on Sunday.

Nawaz Khaskheli has lodged an FIR with the Khan police accusing Shoukat and four unidentified persons of kidnapping his wife Ms Saeen.
