PESHAWAR, July 1: The National Accountability Bureau has withdrawn its case against two government officials in the famous Ghazi Barotha land acquisition scam here on Monday.

The accused, a senior agronomist, Abdul Hameed and an executive engineer of Wapda, Zahid Hussain, were released from prison on the orders of an accountability court after the deputy prosecutor general of NAB, Mian Fasihul Mulk, recorded his statement.

The accused were charged of inflicting a loss of Rs33.5 million on the national exchequer by giving wrong assessment of lands during an inquiry.

They had allegedly declared some barren lands as orchards.

Mulk informed the court, presided over by Miftauddin Khan, that the chairman NAB had given permission for withdrawing from prosecution of the two officers as there was no evidence against them.

He stated that the evidence on record could not connect the accused with the commission of the said offence.

The court would continue trial against the remaining accused including a land acquisition collector, Muhammad Ali Shah, and others.
