Remounts thrash PBG Grey

RAWALPINDI, Nov 1: Remounts Maroon thrashed PBG Grey by 6 goals to 1-1/2 in a low goal match of the Phoenix Securities Polo Cup at the Rawalpindi race course on Thursday.

Naib Risaldar Manzoor Shah (3), Brig Shabbir Ahmed, ALD Muhammad Yaqoob and Bilal Hasham with a goal each were the scorers for Remounts while Brig Sikandar Ali was PBG’s lone goal- getter. They had a 1/2 goal advantage.

In a thrilling high goal encounter, PBG, having a half goal advantage, squeezed past Remounts by 6-1/2 goals to 6. On the scoring list for the winners were Hassan Jaffar Khan (2), Maj. M. Kamran Aslam, Taimur Mowaz Khan and Swr. Mali Khan (one each).

Dfd Khursheed Ahmed top scored for Remounts with three strikes while Maj Asif Zahoor collected a brace and Swr Abdul Rehman chipped in with one goal.

Bahawalpur Reds brushed aside PAF Blues in another high-goal match. The victory was set up by Capt Omer Minhas (3), Capt Shehryar Munir (2), Maj Gen Shakeel Tayab Tirmizi and LD Khursheed Ahmed (one each).

Samiullah Raja (3) and Abdul Sattar (1) scored for the losers.

The high-goal final between PBG and Bahawalpur will be played on Saturday while the low-goal decider which will see Sialkot playing Remounts is set for Friday.
