KARACHI, June 29: A watchman of a residential complex was shot dead in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Saturday.

Police said residents of the complex going to offer the morning prayer saw the watchman, Kalay Khan, 60, lying wounded. They took him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The police said they believed Kalay Khan fell victim to personal enmity.

WOUNDED: A man was shot at and wounded in an Orangi Town mosque on Saturday.

Police said Maulana Sajjad was saying Azan in the morning in Madina mosque in Mujahid Colony, when some men shot him. His cries attracted the people of the locality, who rushed to the mosque and found Sajjad in a pool of blood. He was taken to a hospital where his condition was stated to be serious.

DIES: An under-trial prisoner died in the Central Prison Karachi on Saturday.

Police said Hamza, 45, was arrested for involvement in breach of peace on May 11, and sent to jail. He was a TB patient and died in the prison’s hospital, the police added. The body was handed over to his relatives for burial.

SUICIDE: A young man committed suicide in his Saeedabad home on Saturday.

Police said Mohammad Riaz, 24, was a manual worker. He returned home in the afternoon and fell flat on the ground in his home. The family took him to a hospital where he was found dead. His post-mortem examination showed Riaz had consumed some poisonous stuff to end his life.
