LAHORE, Nov 1: Punjab Minister for Law, and Human Rights Dr Khalid Ranjha has directed the Lahore Range DIG to ensure strict disciplinary action against the Millat Park SHO for illegally detaining three people at the police station, and misbehaving with the Punjab Human Rights Commission team.

Vice-chairperson of the commission, Rukhsana Qayyum Malik had visited the police station along with Nasir Javaid Rana, the Law Department section officer (Human Rights) to verify conditions there. They had found three people Saleem, Javed Mahmood and Sakhawat detained illegally in a basement cell.

According to a press release issued here, one of the detained complained that police had tortured him. Asked for their comments, the policemen reportedly insulted the PHRC officials. The SHO later accused the PHRC team of having some vested interest in the matter.

The PHRC team reported that the attitude of police officials was “arrogant, insulting and non-cooperative.”

Taking serious notice of the high-handedness, the law minister directed the Lahore Range DIG to take disciplinary action against the SHO and the policemen concerned. — APP
