KARACHI, June 25: The shareholders of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) approved the transfer of purification plant, situated at Sui, to Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) through a special resolution unanimously passed in an extraordinary general meeting held on Tuesday.

The resolution also allowed the transfer of related assets of the plant to the PPL, says a press release of the SSGC. The purification capacity of the plant is 850 mcfd.

Currently, the gas at Sui field is being produced by the PPL, whereas the processing of the gas is being carried out by the SSGC for itself and for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL). This practice is contrary to what is prevailing in other gas fields of Pakistan.

Normally the purification facilities are installed by the producers at the gas fields. Worldwide practice also requires that gas purification/ dehydration is accomplished by the gas producers and gas is sold to transmission/distribution companies in the form of sweet gas.

The board of directors and management of the SSGC are following the government policies to divest the non-core activities to the private sector.

The meeting was presided over by company’s chairman Aitzaz Shahbaz, managing director Mukhtar Ahmed and company secretary Inam-us-Samad.
