ISLAMABAD, Nov 1: At least 10,000 jobless youths have applied against 100 vacant posts of constables in the Capital police, a spokesman for the police said on Thursday.

The recruitment, which started on October 29, would be finished on September 3, he said. Out of the total candidates, 6244 belong to Punjab, 2829 hail from the NWFP, and the rest are from Sindh and Balochistan.

He said the candidates had been given six minutes time to cover one kilometre, which resulted in most of the failures. As many as four candidates have been disqualified from “race test”, for forcibly trying to enter the competition at a later stage, he added.

The SSP Islamabad has formed a team of independent observers to ensure transparency in the recruitment process. The observers have been selected from the interior ministry, army monitoring team, Islamabad Bar, chamber of commerce and Quaid-i-Azam university, the spokesman said.

In the first incident, an employ of saving center was robbed of prize bonds worth Rs1.8 million, police said.

The police have registered a report and investigation is underway.

In a similar incident, two bicycle riders snatched prize bonds and cash worth Rs0.9 million from a woman who was leaving a bank branch near Rehmanabad on Thursday.
