NEW DELHI, June 21: India twice on Friday test-fired a home-grown anti-tank missile from its eastern coast, but officials said the tests were routine and had nothing to do with the current military standoff with Pakistan.
The third generation Nag missile, with a range of four to eight kilometres, was tested-fired twice at an interim test range at Chandipur-on-sea, on the coast of Orissa, a defence spokesman said.
“No, it is not going to add to any tensions,” the spokesman said. “It was just a scheduled test. It is not that it is being deployed. It’s just a trial which was successful. There will be other trials and only later will we move to production and deployment.”
A defence ministry statement said the Nag is a third generation anti-tank missile system with “fire and forget” and “top attack” capabilities.—AFP
