JHANG, June 20: Students of the local Government Girls’ College have expressed disappointment over district government’s inability to utilize funds for post-graduate block.
Dawn learnt on Thursday Punjab Governor Lt-Gen Khalid Maqbool (retired) during his meeting with a delegation of parents promised to order commencement of post-graduate classes in the college.
The governor sanctioned a grant of Rs300,000 and directed the district government to get the construction started. However, the officials had failed to initiate the project. Students and parents have expressed concern over the issue. Some parents say they have been facing a great difficulty as they have no option but to get their daughters admitted to boys’ college.
SHOT DEAD: A youth was shot dead by his brother over a land dispute in Bindi village on Wednesday.
Reports said landlord Mumtaz’s sons Jamshed and Javed quarrelled with eachother over demarcation of land. On Wednesday, they exchanged harsh words. Javed opened fire on Jamshed, injuring him.
He was taken to a hospital where he died.
Police have registered a case.
BURNT: Electronic equipment worth Rs1.5 million was reduced to ashes on Wednesday night when fire broke out at a showroom.
Reports said showroom owned by local Chambers of Commerce and Industry Vice-President Zahid Malik caught fire.
The cause of fire was stated to be short circuit.
KILLED: An elderly man was killed when a rashly-driven bus hit him on Thursday.
Muhammad Akhtar of Atish bazaar locality was crossing the road near Sabir Chowk when the bus hit him. He died instantly.
