SUKKUR, June 20: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam has rejected the ordinance regarding the registration of Madressahs, terming it against the promotion of religious propagation.

Sindh JUI Secretary-General Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro, in a press statement issued here on Thursday, said the registration condition, which was imposed through the so-called Ordinance on Religious Madressahs, amounted to intervention in the religious affairs of the country. Such actions, in a country created in the name of Islam, are lamentable, he said.

He said the allegations that religious institutions were involved in imparting military training and receiving funds from foreign countries were baseless.

The JUI leader said the confrontation with the religious parties would not be in favour of the government.

He demanded of the government to withdraw the ordinance immediately otherwise agitations would be started against the government throughout the country. He said the JUI would not register its Madressahs.

tribal clash: One person was killed and another was injured in an armed clash between Ramejo and Korai tribes in Bagarji on Thursday.

A passerby of Jatoi tribe, Sulman, was killed and another person, whose name could not be ascertained, was injured in the clash.

The cause of the incident is said to be a dispute between the two tribes over kidnapping of a girl of Ramejo tribe, Shabana, who was later married to a Korai tribesman. Several armed clashes took place due to the dispute for the last six months.

The Korai tribesmen, however, claimed that the Jatois were favouring Ramejos.
