KARACHI, Jan 15 Karachi Whites staged a good fightback to restrict National Bank to 386 in their first innings on the second day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship match at the DHA Stadium here on Thursday.
National Bank were poised for a big score after piling up 339-6 on the opening day. But fine pace bowling by Malik Aftab and Fahad Khan put paid to their hopes. Malik Aftab grabbed five for 73 in 25.4 overs while Fahad finished with four for 98 in 19 overs.
Karachi Whites closed at 149-4 with skipper Khalid Latif making 56 and Afsar Nawaz an unbeaten 54.
SSGC were 21-1 after Habib Bank declared at 501-8 in the game at the Quaid-i-Azam Park in Steel Township. Ahmed Shahzad, who resumed at 122, was eventually dismissed for 153 (317 balls, 11 boundaries). Aftab Khan scored 76 and all-rounder Kamran Hussain 67.
PIA reached 149-2 after bowling out Pakistan Customs for 310 at the NBP Sports Complex. Rameez Aziz added 28 runs to his overnight 113 before becoming one of four wickets for left-arm paceman Najaf Shah. Rameez`s 141 off 301 balls included 17 fours.
PIA started well with Yasir Hameed (47) and Kamran Sajid (41) putting on 86 for the first wicket before both fell to off-spinner Yasir Hussain.
Meanwhile, Karachi Blues and Peshawar were battling for first-innings lead in the Pool `B` fixture at the UBL Sports Complex. The hosts went to stumps at 205-5 after Peshawar were all out for 290. Teenaged left-arm medium-pacer Abdul Ameer returned career-best figures of five for 74 for the home team.
When Karachi Blues batted, Shaharyar Ghani slammed 10 boundaries in scoring 78.
Our Sports Reporter adds from Lahore Khan Research Laboratories thrashed Lahore Shalimar by 10 wickets inside two days at the Lahore Country Club in Muridke to score their first victory. Although paceman Mohammad Naved captured 7-90, KRL obtained a first-innings lead of 90 runs by making 193.
Lahore Shalimar capitulated for 118 in the second innings with KRL`s opening bowler Jaffar Nazir collecting another four-wicket haul. KRL then required just 3.5 overs to reach their target of 29.
Good batting by Aamir Bashir (51) and skipper Wajahatullah Wasti (47 not out) helped Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited reach 210-4 in response to SNGPL`s first-innings tally of 156 at Sports Stadium in Sargodha.
Sialkot were verge of scoring third straight win after reducing Quetta to 59-4 in the second innings at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot. The hosts claimed a big lead of 295 runs after declaring their first innings at 387-6 with skipper Ayub Dogar contributing 103 (146 balls, 11 fours and two sixes)
Fighting knocks by Ali Raza (68) and Waqas Ahmed (50) helped Lahore Ravi recover from 83-6 to 218 all out against Hyderabad on the first day of the match at the LCCA Ground.
