CHITRAL, June 19: District Nazim Shahzada Mohyuddin has said that under the devolution plan, the district government is making all efforts to protect and rehabilitate the environment and develop the agriculture and livestock sectors on modern lines.

He was speaking on the second day of a workshop on “Traditional practices of Agro-pastoralism in the Hindukush belt of Northern Pakistan”, here on Wednesday.

The workshop is being sponsored by the Chitral Conservation Strategy (CCS) of IUCN.

Mr Mohyuddin said that the district government had limited resources at its disposal, adding that the assistance of NGOs and international organizations in this regard was inevitable.

“It is due to this reason,” he maintained, “that in the District Development Coordination Committee the representatives of NGOs and international organizations had been included to chalk out an integrated strategy for the development of Chitral.”

He regretted that the masses of this remote belt of the Hindukush range were living in abject poverty and the international donors must rush to their rescue.

On the second day of the workshop, three papers were read out on integrated crop management, water management and draught. A hot and live discussion ensued the lectures.
