GUJRANWALA, June 18: The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department ordered its ETOs to continue recovery of property tax and outstanding dues from property owners and defaulters without any hesitation on the basis of rental value system from all rating areas where survey was not conducted, it is learnt here on Tuesday.

Sources said the authorities directed the ETOs to collect property tax from the assesses who filed writ petition before the Lahore High Court against the new system introduced by the department some time ago.

According to them, the excise and taxation authorities were of the view that the Lahore High Court granted an interim relief to the petitioners and not all the assessees.

Meanwhile, the property owners expressed their concern over the authorities’ decision and demanded that the relief granted by the high court should be given to all till the decision of petition.

They claimed that the department enhanced property tax without any survey.

JUDGE’S CONCERN: District and sessions judge Chaudhry Abdul Razzaq expressed displeasure over providing jobs to sacked ‘corrupt’ judiciary officials by some lawyers and demanded that the District Bar Association should take a serious note of the matter.

Talking to the Bar members here on Tuesday, he said he dismissed 19 officials from service during a special move against the corruption. But some lawyers appointed them as their clerks giving them a chance to teach corrupt ways to others, he added.

Mr Razzaq said elimination of corruption from judiciary was his top priority which would continue without any discrimination. He warned the corrupt officials to improve their efficiency or face the sack.

He appealed to the Bar members to cooperate with the judiciary to clean the profession of black sheep.

Bar president Mian Maqsood Ahmad and others assured him of their cooperation.

Earlier, the Bar welcomed three new additional district and sessions judges who have been appointed here recently. They are; Pervez Ismail Joia, Malik Mushtaq Ahmad Aujala and Muhammad Salim Upal.

Later, talking to the Bar members they pledged to uphold supremacy of law without any fear.

They said they would decide all cases in accordance with law. They also sought lawyers’ help in performing their duty diligently.

DATE EXTENDED: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education has extended the dates for filing admission forms for matric supplementary examinations, 2002.

According to a notification issued here on Tuesday, last date for filing forms with normal fee is July 5, while with double and triple fee July 10 and 15, respectively.

Earlier, the dates for submitting admission forms were June 25, July 2 and 9.
