KARACHI, June 18: The examinations department at Karachi University is at present plagued with shortage of senior officers, said campus sources.

It was learnt that out of eight sanctioned posts of assistant-controllers and two that of deputy-controllers, only three assistant-controllers were available to oversee the works pertaining to registration, enrolment and examinations.

One of the assistant-controllers has been demoted, while a deputy-controller has been removed from the section and posted as assistant-controller in the enrolment section.

One recently-posted deputy-controller in the examinations section, after taking the charges of his new assignment, had proceeded on leave.

He was unwilling to continue on the new post as he had no previous experience of examination works, while the nature of job was stressful and sensitive, said the sources.

Though the establishment wing of the university was aware about retirement of another official, it has failed to send the replacement since after the exit of the official.

The sources said work at the examination could collapse any time since there were enormous pressures on controller and other junior staff, while conduct of different examinations and announcement of some of the already held examinations were also nearing.
