Rebel with a cause

Khursheed Hyder`s profile piece on Sheema Kirmani in the previous issue of The Review (Nov 20-26) was a thought-provoking read. Ms Kirmani is among the very few exceptionally talented virtuosi of Pakistan who, for years, have been engaged in a constant battle against the odds of our society.

From her views one assumes that she has devoted her entire life to art and her struggle for bringing about a positive change in a society which is burdened with so-called norms that cage human beings, particularly women.

It is not easy trying to bring forth a revolutionary change through theatre and music, for our society as well as our authorities don`t respect and encourage art and music as much as they should. The youth of today is a breath of fresh air in this regard for they hold any art form in high regard. Here`s hoping the scenario would change. Our ardent hopes rest with artists like Ms Kirmani who are struggling against the norms.

On the move

I tried Atif Badar`s recipes printed in the previous issue of The Review (Nov 20-26) at home and they turned out great. The recipes for working women who hardly have any time to cook were different yet simple and easy to cook. The beetroot and cauliflower curry was totally something else, as it turned out delicious.
