GUJRANWALA, June 14: A clerk of the registration office on Friday was shot dead by his rivals in revenge in Satellite Town.

Zafar Alam Mir was asleep when the outlaws entered the house by scaling its boundary wall and fired at him and escaped. He died on the spot. The body was shifted to the local DHQ Hospital for autopsy.

Aftab Alam Mir, the elder brother of the deceased, was shot dead by the Najaf Ali group in Mustafaabad, Pindi Bhattian, in 1996. Leaving their village, the deceased and his family members had settled in Satellite Town after the incident.

Zafar was the complainant in the murder case of his brother while the judge had awarded death sentence to the accused involved in the killing of his brother. The high court also upheld the decision of the lower court. Heirs of the accused were pressing Zafar for reconciliation, but he refused to do so.

Police have registered a case against outlaws, including Ashraf, Kauser Ali, Afzal, and Najaf.

SUSPENDED: An Elite Force constable, who shot dead his father, grandfather and two jewellers on Thursday, was suspended from service here on Friday.

SSP Muhammad Aslam Tarin also issued to him a show-cause notice.

Police also took his lover Nusrat Bibi into custody for interrogation.

TREES BURNT: Hundreds of trees on over 20 acres of forest were reduced to ashes on Friday when a farmer set hedges of his fields on fire in Vianwali village.

Area people and fire brigades doused the blaze.
