YAOUNDE, June 10: Cameroon captain Rigobert Song hopes Serena Williams’s French Open tennis triumph will inspire his team-mates in Tuesday’s World Cup showdown with Germany.

Williams sported a replica Cameroon strip during her run to the title at Roland Garros and confessed to being a fan of the African team — something that did not go unnoticed by Song.

“Serena Williams is a great fan. We will continue to play like her and make sure we move to the next round,” Song said in an interview with Cameroon’s state radio on Monday.

“We are in excellent form and we’ll be working for nothing short of victory. We intend to raise the level of our game.”
