LARKANA, June 10: Eight people were found detained illegally at the Mahota police station when a court official conducted a raid on Monday to recover two persons.
Afroz Khatoon, a resident of Akil village, had filed an application to the Sindh High Court, Circuit Bench, Larkana, preying for the recovery of her husband, Ghulam Mustafa Chandio. She claimed that her husband, along with another man, Qaiser Khan Chandio, had been picked up by police one month ago. She further complained that the police had also occupied her house.
Acting upon the application, Justice Zahid Kurban Alvi appointed Manzoor Phulpoto as raid commissioner and ordered him to pay a surprise visit to the Mahota police station.
During the raid, the court official found the two persons, as well as six others, lodged in a cell without any record.
The other detainees were identified as Ali Hassan Narijo, Abdul Sattar, Shaman Ali, Roshan Jatoi, Allah Warayo Narijo and Riaz Chandio.
The duty incharge, ASI Ibrahim Junejo, failed to produce any record of their arrest and no entry was found made in the Roznamcha when the court official checked it.
Mr Phulpoto also visited the house of the complainant and found three policemen, Himat Ali Abro, Mir Ali Dayo and Muhammed Ali Mithani, sleeping inside. They told the court official that they were ‘deployed’ by the DSP at the house with four other colleagues who had gone to the town for a while.
The SHO and the incharge of Mahota police station have been ordered to appear before the court along with those occupying the complainant’s house on Tuesday.
