ISLAMABAD, June 10: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has failed to take action against illegal allotment of plots to 100 officials of Capital Development Authority, a well placed source told Dawn.

About 100 CDA officials have acquired two or more than two plots in the capital against their single plot entitlement.

The NAB had seized the record of allotment of illegal plots and started investigations but the findings were not made public and no action had been taken in this regard.

The source said a committee formed by the CDA chairman to probe into the illegal allotment appeared helpless in taking action against the accused because the CDA Ordinance was not clear over the issue, whether a CDA employee can get more than one plot in the capital or not.

A senior official said the CDA Ordinance did not bar the employees from having two or more plots in the city.

However, the NAB in its investigations termed the allotment of more than one plot to any government official as an ‘illegal act’.

Before the allotment of the plot, the official had to submit an affidavit with the relevant department to confirm that they had acquired a plot in their name in Islamabad.

The source said those who acquired the plots had submitted false declarations when applying for the piece of land. They confirmed that they did not possess any plot anywhere in Sindh and Punjab but did not mention about the plots allotted to them in Islamabad.

The official said only those who had acquired plots after filling false declarations would be taken to task and those who had obtained a couple of plots on the directives of a competent authority would be let of the hook.

The source said two former CDA chairmen had also acquired more than one plot in the city.

People with more than one plot are reportedly serving in the CDA for 10 years while there are hundreds of employees who have been working with the authority for last 30 years but they could not obtain even single plot.

The last allotment of plot to 100 CDA officials was made in 1991 but before this the allotees had already acquired plots in Islamabad, the source revealed.
