KARACHI, Oct 7: The pipe factory of Karachi Development Authority will start pipe manufacturing from Oct 15, to supply 7,188 pipes to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board for its K-3 project.

This was stated by KDA Director General, Syed Zaheer Qadri, in a meeting of KDA high officials at the Civic Centre on Sunday, after his visit to the pipe factory.

He directed to expedite the repairing work of the casting, coating and binding units so that pipe-manufacturing work could be started on time.

He also sanctioned an amount of Rs8 million for initial estimated costs.

The meeting was attended by KDA Member (Finance) Umaid Ali Behan, Acting Member (Admn) Mukarram Sultan Bukhari, Chief Engineer Muhammad Yameen and engineers associated with the pipe factory.

On the occasion, the chief engineer informed the meeting that the work on 5,750 pipes of 84 inch diameter and 1,438 pipes of 66 inches would be completed within three-and-a-half years.

He said that in the first phase, the KWSB would provide Rs18 million to the KDA and this amount would be received by next week. The chief engineer informed the meeting that the KDA would earn Rs450 million from the project.

The KDA would post about 100 employees in the pipe factory, whereas about 20 skilled and unskilled workers would be employed on a daily-wage basis.—APP
