LAHORE, Oct 30: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan (Niazi) has condemned the politics of what it said strikes and violence and maintained that it was required to instead forge unity and collectively help the Afghan brethren.
Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday, JUP chief organizer Nawabzada Shams Haider and others said no-one should indulge in violence. Instead of observing strikes the people must donate their income to the Afghan people suffering a lot at the hands of America.
They said all Afghans were not Taliban and majority of them had been forced to take refuge in Pakistan. If America was bombing Afghanistan under some UN resolutions, it must go only after Osama bin Laden and not the Afghan people, they said.
The JUP leaders urged the Pakistan government to allow entry to Afghans and mitigate their problems through relief measures.
They condemned terrorism in any form but regretted the bombing of civilians in Afghanistan. The Pakistan government and the entire Ummat must help Afghans, being subjected to attacks by America, they said.
The JUP leaders said the UN offices should be shifted from America because it was using the world body for its own purposes. The UN must treat all countries fairly and also get its resolutions on Kashmir implemented.
They said the relief packages being announced for Pakistan by America and its allies had no value. In fact, the war in Afghanistan was costing dearly to Pakistan and it was losing money much more than being promised by America.
They said they were in contact with other factions of the party for a merger.
PML-QA: A Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam) leader on Tuesday sought an immediate end to the military strikes on Afghanistan, saying the crisis should be resolved through political and diplomatic methods.
Mian Abdul Waheed, who was chairman of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee during the second PML government and earlier Pakistan’s ambassador to Germany, told a news conference here the Organization of Islamic Conference had failed to play any role. It was now the duty of the United Nations to assume the responsibility.
He supported the proposal that there should be a broad-based government in Afghanistan in which all ethnic groups were represented. A Loya Jirga, he said, was a possible solution.
