ISLAMABAD, May 5: The Election Commission of Pakistan is planning to establish control rooms which would be used to collect results elections results from the district and tehsils.
According to an official announcement, the Election Commission in its meeting, presided over by the chief election commissioner Justice (retd) Irshad Hasan Khan, attended by all four members and secretary election commission, discussed the plan to establish control rooms all over the country.
The briefing was given to the EC by the UNDP representatives, which is assisting in the election process.
“The control rooms will be the focus of all planning and preparation. Their role will also be important in the compilation and dissemination of results,” the announcement said.
The control rooms will be responsible for the recruitment and training, materials production, equipment acquisition, and other preparatory activities. The CRs will provide information that will be helpful in coordinating pre-election activities such as selection of polling stations etc.
The CRs will also assist in collecting results submitted by the districts and tehsils, analysing and consolidating them, and then disseminate them through the Election Commission website.
An UNDP representative briefed the EC about the proposal to train 300,000 polling personnel and polling agents; the UNDP was working to arrange funds for it.
The EC also finalized that the hearing of representations against the preliminary list of delimitation of constituencies for the districts and provincial headquarters, would commenced on May 20, 2002.
