SADIQABAD, May 3: Closure of wheat procurement centres by the food department has created problems for the poor farmers as they have to carry their produce to far off centres to sell them.

The department had wound up Fatehpur Kamal, Chachran Sharif, Ghazipur and Samuka centres. Closure of these centres has added to the farmers’ problems as they have to bear transportation charges.

A number of farmers living around Zahir Pir Town termed the decision anti-farmer and urged the Punjab governor to order the department to reopen the centres.

ROAD REPAIR DEMANDED: Residents of Sadiqabad have demanded immediate repair of road leading to Rahim Yar Khan via Kacha Shahi. The route is the shortest one.

The road was constructed about three years ago but the material used was so substandard that the road has developed potholes.

The residents urged the Nazim and the highways department authorities to take steps to repair the road immediately.
