Power breakdown paralyses life

Published April 18, 2002

KHAIRPUR, April 17: The main areas of Khairpur town plunged into darkness when a major power breakdown occurred on Tuesday night.

The breakdown occurred about 6pm and continued till Wednesday afternoon.

The reason for breakdown is stated to be a fault in the transformer at Shahbaz Colony and at the main line.

The power supply to main trade centres like Punj Golla, Sachal Shopping Centre, Shahi Bazaar, vegetable and fruit market, Mall Road, Civic Centre, Shahbaz Colony, Mohalla Bachal Shah, Altaf Colony, Gharib Shah Road, Mochi Bazaar, Punj-Hatti, Fiazabad, Kutchi Abadis and others remained suspended.

The citizens did not sleep the whole night due to the breakdown.

This was the first longest breakdown of summer season, which continued for about 20 hours. The consumers accused Hesco officials of failing to remove the fault timely.

The citizens have appealed to Hesco chief to replace the old wiring and transformers.

MEHRABPUR: A large number of citizens and councillors of Mehrabpur staged a protest demonstration against the suspension of electricity for three days.

A transformer, which provides electricity to major markets of the town, went out of order some three days ago and was not repaired as yet.

The protesters threatened to stage protest a sit-in in front of the office of Hesco divisional engineer if the transformer was not repaired within 24 hours.
