Woman assaulted

SUKKUR, April 4: An influential landlord of Daharki, Mir Khan Maher, allegedly raped a young woman, Q, 22, in front of her family members, in the hutments of labourers situated some seven Kilometres away from Daharki.

The matter was brought to the notice of some journalists who visited the hutments and gathered details about the incident.

Hazooran, 90, Saher, 45, Manzooran, 30, Mohammad Zaman Shaikh, 35, who were the eye witnesses of the incident, told the visiting journalists that due to the fear of the landlord, they did not lodge an FIR.

They appealed to the journalists to help them get protection, as the landlord had threatened them of dire consequences if they disclosed any thing.

The family members further told that the landlord, who was drunk, entered the hutments, overpowered the young woman, raped her and fled along with his armed accomplices.

The area police said that no complaint was registered and added that they did not know any thing about the incident.
