HYDERABAD, June 5: A large number of employees of the education department staged a demonstration under the banner of All Pakistan Clerks Association (Apca) outside the office of the EDO (education) here on Wednesday.

They were protesting against the nonpayment of their salaries and the surplus pool.

Speaking at the rally, Asadullah Durrani, Pervez Baloch, Abdul Jabbar, Mohammad Ali Shaikh and others warned that if the surplus pool was not abolished and the employees were not paid their salaries, the scope of the protest would be enlarged.

AAG’S VERSION: The additional accountant general, Sindh, Karachi, in a clarification faxed to Dawn regarding the stoppage of salaries to about 5,000 teachers for the month of May, said that the fact was that the education department had not provided budget under the relevant head.

He said that the budget had been provided by the EDO (education) on June 3 and the salaries of the teachers had been released on June 4.
