Call for population control

Published March 20, 2002

FAISALABAD, March 19: The representatives of local bodies should play a pivotal role in creating awareness among people about the advantages of living within means.

This was stated by Standing Committee for Population Welfare Chairman Malik Waris while addressing participants in a seminar on ‘The Role of Lady Councillors in Population Welfare’ at the district council hall here on Tuesday.

He said people should adopt ways of population planning as it had become imperative to maintain balance between population and resources.

The lady councillors should go from door to door to apprise women of the purpose of population control, he added.

On the objective of the campaign, district Population Welfare Officer Mrs Iffat Nazir said some 69 welfare centres had been working in Faisalabad district while mobile service units had been serving people in rural areas of Jaranwala, Samundri and Chak Jhumra.

She appealed to the people to extend maximum cooperation to the department for making the future of country secure. She also asked the lady councillors to work in harness with the department in accelerating the activities of the welfare centres.
