KARACHI, March 16: The Federal Minister of Information and Media Development, Nisar Memon, has said no law relating to the press will be introduced without taking the journalists into confidence.

He held out the assurance at a meeting with a seven-member delegation of the PFUJ and APNEC, which met him here on Saturday.

The minister was apprised of journalists’ reservations on introduction of law regarding press council, implementation of the 7th Wage Board Award, lease of the building of the Karachi Press Club (KCB) in favour of the KCB and the allotment of plots to its members at Hawkesbay Housing Scheme.

He said the purpose of holding this meeting with APNEC and PFUJ representatives was to listen to their viewpoints and update himself on issues relating to the press.

About the implementation of the 7th Wage Board Award, the minister of information said he had a meeting with the federal minister of labour on the issue.

He said the Award had been announced and the government would like its implementation. For this purpose, he said, he would meet the stakeholders, including the APNS.

About the lease of the Press Club Building and allotment of plots to journalists, the minister of information assured the delegation that he would extend all help in this regard, and asked the delegation to provide him the details in writing. — APP
