KARACHI: 54 students get prizes

KARACHI, March 14: Some 54 outstanding girl students of St Joseph’s Government College for Women, who won positions in the Board examinations, were awarded prizes and medals at a ceremony held at the college on Thursday.

The students included position-holders in the board examination, intermediate science and arts and university examination, BSc and BA.

Sindh Education Minister Prof Anita Ghulam Ali was the chief guest. She presented the awards. The chairman, Board of Intermediate Education, Sharif Memon, presided over the function.

In her speech on the occasion, Anita Ghulam Ali spoke about her educational background and her experiences as a teacher at the S.M. Science College.

She appreciated the performance of the college’s students, their teachers and the principal.

In her welcome address the principal, Dr Prof Tanvir Anjum, spoke briefly on the history of the college and highlighted the problems.

The prize distribution session was held in two phases. In the first phase, the position holders of the board, university and college examinations were awarded shields and certificates.

The most prominent among the recipients was Maria Maqbool, who had obtained first position in the Intermediate pre-medical exams in 2001.

In the second phase, girls with a remarkable record in co-curricular activities and sports were awarded shields and certificates. —APP
