PR revenue increases

LAHORE, March 6: The Pakistan Railways revenue during the first two quarters of the current financial year was over Rs6.287 billion, about Rs203.9 million more than the target.

The railway authorities had fixed a revenue target of Rs6.204 billion for the July-December, 2001, period. During the corresponding period last year, the organization had earned Rs4.72 billion.

Income from transportation of passengers was Rs3,186 billion and from freight traffic Rs2.265 billion.

The rest of the income was generated by selling/ leasing out various assets and facilities.

The railway also curtailed its expenditure during the period. An amount of Rs4.83 billion was spent against a ceiling of Rs5.24 billion.

Meanwhile, the railway administration has announced that the non-stop Lahore Express (27-up/ 28-down) will stop at Sahiwal, Khanpur and Nawabshah railway stations from March 10.
