KESC tariff cut by 13 paisa

Published March 6, 2002

KARACHI, March 5: The Karachi Electricity Supply Corporation has reduced the electricity tariff by 13 paisa per unit for its residential, commercial and industrial consumers, a KESC spokesman announced here Tuesday.

In a statement, he said the reduction in power rates would be applicable on consumer bills with effect from Feb 6, 2002.

The lowering of electricity rates is on account of a reduction in Fuel Adjustment Charges which was occasioned by a fall in fuel prices.

The decrease in tariff will reduce the utility’s monthly bill collection by about Rs75 million.

KESC Managing Director Brig Tariq Saddozai has directed the KESC Billing Department to prepare the electricity bills from Feb 16 onwards, applying the 13 paisa cut.

The details of the tariff cut are as follows:

The per unit rate of the residential electricity consumers using power from 1 to 100 KWH units would be Rs2.18 (down 5.7pc compared to previous rate); on consuming 101 to 300 KWH units, the rate would be Rs3.08 (lower by 4.1pc); on using 301 to 1,000 KWH units, the rate fixed is Rs5.37 (down 2.4pc); on using 1,001 to 4,000 KWH units, the rate set is Rs6.65 (lower by 2pc); on consuming above 4,000 KWH units, the rate is Rs7.16 (down 1.8pc). The average per unit commercial rates have been lowered from Rs7.18 to Rs7.05, and industrial rates to Rs4.43 per unit. The temporary connection charges would be: Domestic Rs6.03; Commercial Rs8.93; Industrial Rs5.9 and Bulk Supply Rs5.98.—APP
