ISLAMABAD, Feb 9: Pakistan on Saturday appreciated the European Parliament’s call for “a de-escalation of tensions and the redeployment of forces to peacetime locations”, as well as its urging of “India and Pakistan to resume dialogue to prevent a military conflict and to start negotiations.”

Foreign Office spokesman said this in a statement issued here on Saturday. The statement said: “The Government of Pakistan has noted the European Parliament’s resolution on terrorist attacks in India adopted on Feb 7, 2002.”

Despite its reservation on some elements of the resolution, the statement said, Pakistan welcomes its general thrust as well as its overall message.

Pakistan appreciates the European Parliament’s call for “a de-escalation of tensions and the redeployment of forces to peacetime locations” as well as its urging of “India and Pakistan to resume dialogue to prevent a military conflict and to start negotiations”.

Pakistan also welcomes the European parliament’s appeal for the renewal of Pakistan-India dialogue in the spirit of the Simla Agreement, the Lahore Declaration and the relevant United Nations resolutions,” the spokesman added.—APP
