ISLAMABAD, Jan 31: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) provisionally collected Rs202.82 billion during the first seven months of the current financial year against Rs213.07 billion revenue collected during the same period last fiscal, showing a decline of 4.81 per cent.

And the revenue receipts fell nine per cent in January this year when compared with the same month last year. It stood at Rs28.3 billion in January this year against Rs31.1 billion during the same month last year.

The target set for the July-January period of current financial year was Rs230 billion against Rs213.07 billion revenue collection during the same period of last fiscal, an increase of Rs16.93 billion over the revenue collection of last year.

However, the revenue collection during the first seven months of current fiscal declined by 11.81 per cent in comparison to the target set for the same period of the current fiscal.

Similarly, the target set for January of current fiscal was Rs37.3 billion against Rs31.1 billion revenue collection last year during the same month, an increase of Rs6.2 billion over the last year tax collection during the same month.

A senior official told Dawn that decrease in the revenue collection was due to a major decline in dutiable imports.

He, however, said that there still existed the possibility of Rs5 to 6 billion being collected under the head of direct taxes and sales tax.

According to official figures released by the CBR here on Thursday, showed that the tax authorities have collected Rs73.27 billion under the head of direct taxes during the first seven months of current financial year against Rs67.63 billion revenue collection during the same period last fiscal, an increase of 8.33 per cent.

Under the head of indirect taxes the tax authorities collected Rs129.55 billion during the July-January period against Rs145.44 billion revenue collection during the same period last year.

The tax authorities collected Rs85.01 billion under the head of sale tax during the July-Jan period against Rs83.58 billion during the same period last year, showing an increase of 1.73 per cent, while under the head of central excise Rs22.97 billion was collected against Rs27.86 billion revenue collected during the same period last year, registering a decline of 17.55 per cent.
