GUJRANWALA, Jan 29: The district council expressed concern over inordinate delay in release of funds for uplift projects and other office expenditures.
Speaking at a meeting held here on Tuesday, Nazims of a number of union councils complained that they have not been receiving funds for the last six months. Some of them alleged that the local secretaries were involved in embezzlement of funds.
A local government assistant director said tehsil city council Nazim was asked to check the funds of 64 union councils of the city but he regretted to do so due to legal and departmental complications.
The meeting was told that the district coordinating officer has already ordered an inquiry against secretaries.
AUCTION ORDERED: The banking court No 1 ordered the auction of properties of five loan defaulters on Tuesday.
It is reported that the defaulters jointly owed Rs2 million to different banks.
ROBBERIES: Robbers looted a factory and a house and took away three motorcycles from different parts of the city on Tuesday.
Four gunmen forced their entry into a pressure cooker manufacturing unit in Farid town. They held factory owner Muhammad Munshi and workers at gunpoint and escaped with Rs12,000 in cash, wrist watches and mobile phones.
Four robbers sneaked into the house of one Muhammad Sarwar in Fatu Mand locality. They locked the family in a room. They collected Rs45,000 in cash, gold jewellery and other valuables and fled from the scene.
Alipur Chattha market committee inspector Azmatullah Dhillon was deprived of his motorcycle and cash.
Motorcycles of Aslam of People’s Colony and Muhammad Azam of Khalid Colony were taken away at gunpoint.
ACCIDENT: Twenty passengers sustained injuries when a commuter bus overturned due to speeding near Wazirabad on Tuesday.
The bus was on its way to Wazirabad from Daska. When it reached near Lado-pulli on the Sialkot Road, the driver lost control over the steering due to high speed.
The injured were admitted to hospital.
FOUND DEAD: A factory watchman was found dead in the Sadar area here on Tuesday.
Abdul Aziz’s body was found in the morning by factory workers. There were marks on his neck.
The motive behind the murder and accused could not be ascertained.
INJURED MAN DIES: Shahzad Masih of Salim Colony, who was stabbed and injured by eight people two days ago over a minor issue, succumbed to his injuries in the Civil Hospital on Tuesday.
