HYDERABAD, Jan 26: The district police on Friday brought around one dozen ailing under trial prisoners (UTPs) from central jail to the civil hospital for their medical treatment.

A jail source said that the prisoners had been waiting for their medical treatment and investigation at the civil hospital for the last several days, but the non-availability of police escort delayed their medical check-up.

Three prisoners have so far died in the central jail and civil hospitals in the last ten days due to illness.

Those who died were identified as Usman Jamali, Mir Ali Khoso and Lakho. Jamali and Mir Ali Khoso were suffering from chronic diarrhoea, while Lako was a TB patient and died at the central jail hospital.

A jail official said that the prisoners had to be sent to hospital for treatment after their condition did not improve.
