KARACHI: Anti-polio drive from today

Published January 22, 2002

KARACHI, Jan 21: All preparations have been finalized to vaccinate some 4.5m children against polio during the three-day sub-national immunization campaign commencing in different parts of Sindh from Tuesday.

Children, up to the age of five, in Karachi, Hyderabad and Jacobabad districts besides those from selected areas of Badin, Dadu, Thatta, Sanghar, Shikarpur, Larkana and Ghotki are expected to be covered against the crippling disease during the exercise.

Apart from the three districts where a few cases of polio have been detected during the recent past, the other areas include those which are considered to be in the high risk zone due to their common boundaries with other provinces.

Some of these areas pertain to regions located close to the districts where polio cases had been recently reported. Since the virus knows no border, hence it is considered necessary to provide maximum protection coverage to the vulnerable children.—APP
