One dies in earthquake

SKARDU, Jan 1: A man was killed in earthquake in Kondos valley some 150 kilometres from here, sources told Dawn here on Tuesday.

Apo Razi, 65, resident of Jaffarabad, died when a heavy landslide hit him near Tchogho Grong in the valley.

He was on his way to Tchogho Grong from Hanu village.

A house was also reported to have been destroyed by the quake.

Skardu-Khaplu and Kaplu-Thagas roads remained blocked till late night due to the landslidings. Later, the roads were cleared for the traffic.

The sources said that they had been feeling jolts of earthquake intermittently in some parts of Baltistan for the last six days.

People in Khaplu, Surmo, Ghoorsey, Thagas, Sino, Pharawa, Dumsum and both the valleys of Kondos and Saltoro also felt the jolts.

Many people in Skardu said to have felt jolts of earthquake on Sunday which continued for two minutes.
