LAHORE, Dec 20: Chairman Pakistan Steel Col (Retd) Mohammad Afzal Khan has called for the provision of some protection to the PS by imposing ban on the import of secondary steel products as it had earlier banned the import of used cars, auto parts and electronic goods.

During a meeting with president Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Dr Khalid Javaid Chowdhry and the executive committee members here on Thursday, he said that the PS had been able in earning a net profit of Rs580 million and added that it had also paid back first instalment worth Rs950 million of bank loans due since the inception of the PS.

He apprised the meeting of the performance of the PS in different sectors.

Dr Khalid supported the call of chairman PS to bring down import duty on steel raw material.

He also demanded the expedition of the plan for the privatization of the PS.—APP
