Appropriation in education department

SHEIKHUPURA, Dec 7: Appropriation of thousands of rupees was detected in the local education department here on Friday.

Officials of the department had reportedly received money from the government on the pretext of buying furniture of various schools in the district.

The embezzlement was revealed when a bill was submitted to tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Mahmoodul Haq for his permission to make the payment to the furniture manufacturer. The Nazim constituted a team to check the furniture which was not available in any school.

An inquiry to ascertain the names of the officials involved in fraud had been initiated.

PROTESTED: Transporters and commuters have protested against the apathy of the of district traffic police here on Friday.

They said police, on the pretext of checking documents of the vehicles, were collecting illegal gratifications on all the checkposts. The vehicles were being impounded if their demands were not fulfilled, they added.

They urged the high-ups to check the menace of corruption for the convenience of the commuters.
