Aqeel’s match-winning spell

KARACHI, Nov 20: Fine off-spin bowling by Aqeel Sharif enabled Mohammad Hussain CC move on top in Pool B of the Danish Trophy Ramazan cricket tournament, after beating Clifton Gymkhana by 30 runs Monday, at the KGA ground.

Having first use of the wicket, Mohammad Hussain CC raced to 190 for nine in their 20 allotted overs with Amir Iqbal top scoring with 76 runs. Zeeshan Tanvir (41) and Sharjeel Ashraf (26) were also among the runs. Off-spinner Amir Mufti three for 43 was the pick of the attack for the fielding side.

Set to get 198 runs for victory, Clifton Gymkhana were restricted to 167 for seven in their 20 allotted overs through off-spinner Aqeel Sharif 4 for 32 and Amir Iqbal two for eight, although Kashif Ali (50), Fawad Hussain (34), Akhtar Munir (31) and Amir Mufti (24), batted well for the losing side.

In an exciting fixture on Tuesday, Mohammad Zamir Khan Memorial (MZK) beat Southern Telecommunication Region (STR II) by two wickets on the same ground.

Deciding to bat after winning the toss, STR II were bowled out for 145 runs in their 20 allotted overs.Tauseef Ahmed top scored for his side with 59 runs. Farid Iqbal three for 21 and Imran Khan three for 19 bowled well for the fielding side.

Set to score 146 runs for victory, M.Z. Khan Memorial reached the target in 17.2 overs after losing eight wickets. Qamdar Ali (51) and Ishtiaq Hussain (32), made victory possible for their side. Khurram Siddiqui emerged as the best bowlers with three for 22 for Mohammad Zamir Khan Memorial. Wednesday’s fixture:, Tapal CC v/s Clifton Gymkhana, 1-30 p.m.
