FAISALABAD, Nov 19: Traders and shopkeepers of tehsil Samundri have threatened to swarm roads if the dacoits, involved in jewellery heist, are not arrested within next couple of days.
A bevy of shopkeepers told newsmen here on Monday that the dacoits took away gold worth Rs1 million from a shop due to inadequate security measures.
They alleged area police were patronizing the culprits as the SHO termed the incident a ‘farce’. No formal report had yet been registered by police, they claimed.
Five dacoits, including a woman, looted gold ornaments from the Shahi Jewellers, Mandi Bazaar at gunpoint on Sunday evening.
Meanwhile, two highwaymen snatched cash and wrist watch worth thousands of rupees from one Ali Asghar and drove away with his two-wheeler (FDU-9995) on the Rasalewala Road.
ARRESTED: Local police on Monday claimed to have arrested a gambler’s den owner who was working with the connivance of some police officials in Ghulam Muhammadabad.
Led by an information, the team raided the den and arrested Jawad Iqbal when he was busy gambling on a cricket match.
Several other people reportedly managed to flee.
AWARDED: Former bureau chief of a local daily and Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) former director research Zahir Iqbal has been awarded gold medal by All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA) for his meritorious services.
