KHAIRPUR, Nov 19: Mirwah Canal, the biggest waterway of Khairpur district, has been closed for eight days under rotation programme.

Due to closure of the canal four talukas of the district i.e. Kot Diji, Faiz Ganj, Thari Mirwah and Khairpur have been adversely effected as wheat cultivation has been stopped there and in many areas wheat will not be cultivated in time due to water shortage.

According to growers besides wheat cultivation, banana and mango orchards and vegetable crops will also be affected.

They also feared shortage of grass and fodder for the cattle.

Irrigation authorities have said if water situation in Sukkur Barrage improves, there is likelihood of availability of water, otherwise the rotation programme can be extended.

DEMO: Khairpur Citizens Alliance held a protest demonstration against Southern Sui Gas Company for load-shedding and low pressure of gas particularly at Iftar and Sehri timings during Ramazan.

The citizens’ representatives have threatened to extend the scope of the protest if load-shedding of gas continues.

SUICIDE: A primary school teacher, Zawar Ali Kanhar, resident of village Ali Bux Kanhar of taluka Kingri, committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree on late Sunday night.

The cause of the suicide is said to be some domestic crisis.

DIES: A man who was injured in a family clash died in hospital at Nawabshah late Sunday night.

The deceased Nizamuddin son of Mohammad Siddique Rajpar, 35, was seriously injured in a clash over some family dispute in village Aman Chodagi, taluka Faiz Ganj, district Khairpur.

Abdul Sattar, brother of the deceased, has lodged FIR against four accused belonging to his community.
