Hafeez slams 106

RAWALPINDI, Nov 4: A patient century by opener Muhammad Hafeez brought babes Sui Gas close to safe shores but not close enough as they still required another 28 runs with four wickets in hand to avoid following on in their Patron’s Trophy Grade-I match against Habib Bank Sunday.

Sui Gas, who resumed their first innings at six for no loss, finished the third day at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium at 229 for six as they replied to Habib Bank’s mammoth 406 for three declared.

Hafeez, who combined with Ali Hussain for a first wicket partnership of 114, slammed the ball 10 times to the ropes and struck one big six in scoring 106. His heroics were eventually ended by Shahid Nazir who had him caught by Tahir.

Ali Hussain cracked eight boundaries for a knock of 47 that came off 145 balls before he too became a victim of Shahid, who captured three wickets for the day. Kabir Khan claimed two wickets off successive balls but missed a hat trick.

Monday is the last day of the match.
