KARACHI, Oct 14: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam secretary-general, MNA Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, on Saturday said that the basic purpose to introduce the so-called women protection bill was to divide the opposition.

Talking to journalists at Qasr-i-Naz, Karachi on his arrival here, he viewed that the present situation was that the Pakistan Peoples Party was fully backing the government on the issue of Hudood Ordinances, while the remaining opposition parties were terming the proposed bill contrary to the Quran and Sunnah.

The MMA leader felt that the PPP’s attitude was a hurdle in the formation of a grand opposition and the MMA was trying its best to agree the PPP on forming a combined opposition, he said.

He was of the opinion that in case of failure of opposition under present circumstances to show power against the policies of present government, the country might suffer damages.

“A new crisis can emerge in the country if troops would be dispatched to Afghanistan to work under NATO forces”, he said.

Commenting on challenging sanads (certificates) of Madressahs and remarks of the Supreme Court, he termed it a political blackmailing. “We have made it clear that the court should refrain from such decision as it could have dangerous consequences”, he added.—PPI
