STOCKHOLM, Oct 14: Swedish Trade Minister Maria Borelius is resigning after just one week in office amid a row over tax evasion, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said in a radio interview Saturday.

Mother-of-four Borelius admitted last week that she had paid her children’s nannies cash throughout the 1990’s, saying she could not afford the going rate for the care of her children.

She also admitted not paying her television licence, while press reports said she had escaped paying tax on a holiday home in southern Sweden by means of a front company registered in Jersey.

Borelius, a former businesswoman and journalist, is also alleged to have sold 500 shares in a company of which she was a director without informing the authorities.—AFP
