Locomotive derails

LAHORE, July 9: The locomotive and a coach of Gunnun Express derailed between Shahdara Junction and Kot Molchand railway station on Sunday, suspending rail traffic on the Lahore-Narowal section for four hours or so.

Railway officials said the 209-up express train left the Shahdara station at 12:20pm. The locomotive and the front trolley of the first coach derailed when it was in the middle of the two stations at around 12:30pm.

They said the staff engaged in the track replacement on the section had displayed caution, which the driver might have overlooked. “Thank God, the train was moving at a slow speed,” an official involved in the track replacement told this reporter.

Deputy divisional superintendent Abdul Jabbar of the PR Lahore division said a rescue train was dispatched to the spot that cleared the track and restored traffic at 5pm. —Staff Reporter
