TIMERGARA, April 30: Several policemen were wounded when a mob attacked a police station in the Samar Bagh area of Lower Dir district on Friday, witnesses said. They told Dawn that the mob had besieged the police station, demanding handing over of the alleged killer of a 12-year-old boy and his father so that they could stone him to death.

The mob continued the siege for more than three hours and hurled stones on the police station, vehicles and policemen, injuring several of them and partially damaging some official and private vehicles.

Senior officials and elders of the area rushed to the police station and dispersed the angry crowd.

The district coordination officer told the people that the alleged killer had been arrested and had confessed to the crime. He would not be handed over to them and would be tried according to the law, the DCO added.

The boy, Saddam Hussain, had been killed two weeks ago and his body was recovered from the River Panjkora.

His father had also been killed one year ago and his relatives believe that his uncle is involved in both the killings.
